MTB

Today's outdoor activities began just before sunrise when I was heading out on a mountain bike to try to spot anything interesting, – and to get some exercise.
I biked along fields with heaps of sheep ...
... and a belligerent bull with the tiniest of mohawk coiffures.
I enjoyed yet another morning with sunny weather ...
... and checked that the waning gibbous of the moon actually looks the opposite as it does in the northern hemisphere.
The birdlife in this area has a predominance of introduced and naturalized species from the rest of the world,
like house sparrows, starlings, blackbirds, chaffinches – and California quails (above).
Later in the morning we both ventured out on the "Easy Rider" MTB trail in the woods on the eastern outskirts of town.
A very lovely ride, indeed, in a beautiful and quiet forest –
– except for the constant and shrill "singing" of male cicadas and crickets in all trees.
Our day on the trails ended on Conical Hill high above Hanmer Springs and we were rewarded with this pleasant view.
. . .
Tomorrow, we'll be driving north to explore some wild countryside.
