Rain & drain

From the very morning, a low overcast sky promised precipitation. Nevertheless, we weighed anchor at 9 o'clock and set an easterly course aiming for somewhere beyond the horizon.
First we passed along Thisted harbour front and found the house (Strandgade 3) where my parents and my sisters lived until August 31st, 1944. (Their appartment was the penthouse level to the left in the light grey building).
A late morning coffee break was enjoyed on the shore of Lønnerup Fjord (one of the numerous dammed-off bays of Limfjorden).
An old railway traché turned into a bike path served us well from Østerild and well passed Vesløs.
At 13:34 we biked past Tømmerby church from c. 1130. The local painter was busy chalking the tower ...
... and shortly after we entered the gravel road dividing Lund Fjord and Bygholm Vejle. Two high-quality wetland areas of international importance for migratory waterfowl and shorebirds.
From then on, thunder and rain precipitated upon us.
After a semi-chaotic traffic encounter in the town of Fjerritslev, we had no option but to bike on a heavily used country road with only a short stretch of bike path. – And of course: My bike's back tyre ran over something sharp and punctured.  The repair took a while in the pouring rain, but as you can see: Spirits were high although the passing trucks and cars contributed with extra splashes of rain water.

After some misunderstanding at our scheduled overnight stay we proceeded to another B&B (but the owner had gone on holiday) and then eventually to Tranum Klit Camping where we are presently accommodated in a small but cosy and dry cabin. We have drained our resources today and after a good hot soup and a cold beer we are ready to hit the bunk after 94 mostly wet kilometers on the bikes.
